Basta is a childhood game, or a family game. We used to play it in Mexico when the electricity went out. It was beyond fun.

It is usually played individually, but with large classes, it is impossible.

First, divide your class in groups of 4.

Have the students copy the table. Each column should be labeled, nombre,  apellido, cosa, país, cuidad o estado, animal, flor o fruto, total.

Pick a letter.

Then students should find a word of each category that starts with that letter.

For example, if you picked A, then they should write a name that starts with a, a last name that starts with a, and so on.

The group that finishes first has to star counting, Basta uno, basta dos… basta diez.

At basta diez, everyone stops writing, and you start checking the answers.

For every original answer, the group gets 100 points.

For repeated answers, divide 100 into the number of answers. So, if two groups wrote David, then they get 50 points each.

The team with more points wins.
